I heard the crowds
sonic boom
as the grandstand flew by my right heel.
My spur slid into her auburn side.
And damned if that rail didn’t smile even wider,
so wide I couldn’t get over it,
so low I couldn’t get under it,
so high…
Never could carry a tune.
Her ears flattened to her head catching my song,
snorting it through her nostrils.
Ran so fast I could hear the wind singing
Music, the song of the sirens in my ears,…
you run!
