#223 1st Corner

This painting started out with my photo
of eight horses coming hard around the
first corner.

As an artist I look for the
meat of the story, the strongest message.

This jockey, this leading-into-the-wind
rider was “the one”.
He was riding…way off center,
leaning hard into the rail,
he told the whole story.

So I set out to tell that story,
to portray his dedication to the moment,
the athlete at work with the athlete
between his legs,
my goal…
                                capture the moment.

Around the first corner...
                                 outside horse closing in.
                                                                 Excellent jockey, lead on!
